Sally A. Scoggin

Shareholder; Labor and Employment

Sally is a shareholder in the firm of Briggs and Morgan, Professional Association. She is based in our Minneapolis office and is a member of the Labor and Employment Section. Sally practices principally in the areas of:

  • Employment litigation
  • Employment counseling
  • Other commercial litigation

She handles cases in both state and federal courts in Minnesota and in jurisdictions outside of Minnesota. Sally is admitted to practice in the courts of Minnesota and has been admitted in many federal district courts and courts of appeal in other jurisdictions. She frequently assists employers in matters brought before the Minnesota Department of Human Rights, the Minnesota Office of Administrative Hearings, and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).

Sally provides counseling and training to management on employment law issues. She works with employers on structuring, drafting and implementing various employment-related policies, and counsels employers on various personnel decisions. She provides ongoing representation to several health care organizations and counsels health care clients on employment and consulting agreements and human resource issues, including those involving occupational and facility licensing.

Sally co-authored an article entitled "Employment Covenants Not to Compete," published in Mathew Bender's Business Torts Practice . She is a volunteer attorney for Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services (SMRLS), which awarded Sally with the 21st Century Leadership Award for her many years of service with the organization. Sally is a member of the State Planning Commission for Legal Services, co-chairs the Judiciary Committee for the Ramsey County Bar Association, and recently finished her term as chair of the Minnesota Supreme Court Legal Services Advisory Committee. Sally is a member of the Minnesota State, Ramsey County and Federal Bar associations, as well as Minnesota Women Lawyers.

Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Sally received her B.A. from Lawrence University and her law degree cum laude from William Mitchell College of Law. She joined Briggs in 1980.
