Six Briggs attorneys, two separate teams, have been recognized by Minnesota Lawyer as 2017 Attorneys of the Year. Each year, Minnesota Lawyer recognizes the best achievements in the Minnesota legal profession with the Attorneys of the Year awards. Attorneys are chosen based on their leadership, involvement in major cases or other newsworthy events, excellence in corporate or transactional services, and public service.

Governor Dayton’s legal team of Briggs lawyers Sam Hanson, Scott Knudson, Scott Flaherty and Emily Peterson secured a Minnesota Supreme Court victory in the Governor’s line-item veto battle against the legislature. "The governor was a great client," said Hanson. “He understood the case, but he let us do our jobs."

Briggs lawyers Steve Ryan and Brian Corey were recognized for the technicalities of their work in steering Habitat for Humanity toward a deal with Bremer Bank so more affordable housing will come available faster. Habitat now sells mortgages to Bremer. "It accelerates the turns on the use of the capital to put back into affordable housing,” Ryan said. "That is hugely innovative."
