Phil Schenkenberg, shareholder and member of the Privacy, Data Security and Cybersecurity practice group at Briggs and Morgan, participated in a panel discussion for the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal featuring cybersecurity and information technology professionals from the Twin Cities.
When asked how privacy legislation is driving behaviors, Schenkenberg responded, “It’s going to have an impact across the country. The California legislature enacted privacy legislation that will go into effect beginning in 2020. It requires companies that do business in California and have $25 million revenue, and some other standards, to do things with data that maybe they’re not doing, and have some transparency that they might not have today. Companies who are going to be subject to this need to pay attention. They don’t want to end up being the defendants in the first wave of lawsuits.”
