John Degnan Named an Attorney of the Year by Minnesota LawyerPrint PDFShare
Briggs and Morgan, P.A. is pleased to announce John Degnan was named a 2015 Attorney of the Year by Minnesota Lawyer. Degnan was selected as a member of the Larry Stigen Legal Team along with five collaborating attorneys from various law firms.
The Larry Stigen LegalTeam’s pro bono work resulted in a favorable outcome for Larry Stigen, an Army veteran of the Vietnam war. Barred by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) from receiving benefits for post-traumatic stress disorder syndrome with which he suffered for 40 years after the war’s conclusion, the legal team secured VA medical benefits for Stigen in February 2015, after seven years of work on the case.
For the 16th year, Attorney of the Year nominees were submitted by judges, bar groups, clients and attorneys, coming from diverse practice groups including criminal law, litigation, public service, intellectual property and in-house counsel. Once nominated, honorees were selected by Minnesota Lawyer’s outside panel of judges based on the following criteria: leadership in the profession, involvement in major cases, newsworthy events, excellence in corporate or transactional services and public service. Honorees will be profiled in Attorneys of the Year magazine and will be recognized at a dinner and awards program on Feb. 18.
Degnan practices primarily in the areas of commercial and business litigation, shareholder disputes, products liability, professional liability and disciplinary matters, personal injury and employment law. He has more than 39 years of trial experience and is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. Degnan has also represented clients in matters involving significant E-discovery and forensics issues as well as in electronic medical records (EMR) issues. As a Minnesota Rule 114 Neutral, he is frequently chosen as a mediator and arbitrator in business disputes, employment, commercial and injury cases.
Degnan was previously honored by Minnesota Lawyer as an Attorney of the Year in 2009 for his significant pro bono work. Additionally, he has been recognized on multiple occasions, including accolades from The Best Lawyers in America, Minnesota Lawyer, Minnesota Super Lawyers and Who’s Who in America.
