Jim Long Receives Top Honors for Pro Bono ServicePrint PDFShare
MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – Briggs and Morgan shareholder Jim Long will receive the 2016 Pro Bono Publico Distinguished Service Award from the Hennepin County Bar Association (HCBA) at the HCBA’s annual Bar Benefit event on March 10. Long was chosen as the award’s recipient to celebrate his significant pro bono legal contributions to the indigent and disadvantaged community.
The Distinguished Service Award honors an individual for career-long pro bono work. It is part of the HCBA’s Pro Bono Publico awards, which honor HCBA members for their commitment to pro bono work in the areas of legal services to the disadvantaged or law-related education for the public.
Long serves as Briggs and Morgan’s pro bono coordinator and chair of Briggs' pro bono committee, which facilitates the provision of pro bono legal services to low-income individuals, nonprofit and community organizations, and public interest causes in Minnesota, by the attorneys at Briggs. The firm’s pro bono services range from direct legal work for the disadvantaged community to extensive assistance to the courts.
Beyond his involvement in Briggs’ pro bono services, Long is chair of the firm’s Antitrust, Franchise and Distribution practice group and has spent more than 30 years litigating and counseling clients in the areas of antitrust, franchise and dealer/distribution law. Additionally, he is a Rule 114 Certified Neutral, handling a number of mediations through the Hennepin County District Court Pro Bono Mediation Program. Long is listed in The Best Lawyers in America for his work in the area of Franchise Law and Litigation - Antitrust, and he has been repeatedly listed in Minnesota Super Lawyers.
