MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – Estate planning attorney Bob McLeod joins Briggs and Morgan’s Trusts and Estates section, bringing more than 20 years of experience counseling clients in the areas of estate planning, probate and fiduciary litigation, and guiding clients through legalities surrounding charitable gifts, wealth preservation and business succession.
McLeod advises clients on estate- and gift-tax planning, and assists clients in drafting, administering or litigating Minnesota trust and probate matters. He prepares wills, trusts and related estate planning documents, including real estate transactions, grantor retained annuity trusts (GRATs) and charitable remainder trusts (CRTs) for high net worth individuals and spends a significant amount of time representing clients in the courtroom in uncontested and contested trials, along with basic motion practice, discovery and trial practice, including before the Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court.
McLeod is a frequent public speaker on topics surrounding estate planning, probate, trusts, guardianships and conservatorships. Since 1995, he has served as an adjunct professor for trusts and estates law, and estate and gift tax law at Mitchell Hamline School of Law. He is a fellow of The American College of Trust & Estate Counsel (ACTEC) and is a Certified Public Accountant (inactive) with experience at a large accounting firm.
Prior to joining Briggs, McLeod collaborated with the Minnesota Legislature on drafting the state’s probate and guardianship law, and assisted in developing the court-approved forms requested by the state for use by attorneys practicing guardianship and conservatorship law.
