Briggs and Morgan Welcomes Three New Attorneys

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – Briggs and Morgan, P.A. is pleased to announce the addition of three attorneys to the firm. John E. Brandt joins the firm’s Financial Institutions and Real Estate section, Nathan R. List joins the Business Law section and Kristin Stastny joins the Energy section.

Brandt, of counsel, practiced law for 49 years at the St. Paul-based Murnane Brandt firm – now HKM Professional Association – before joining Briggs. His practice focuses on business, financial and real estate law and includes representing numerous closely-held companies in formation, stockholder and member relationships, mergers and acquisitions. Brandt also has represented community banks and other financial service companies in handling lending originations and workout matters, and has extensive experience in complicated financial transactions needing creative and sophisticated solutions to difficult issues involving closely held companies, real estate and loan collateralization.

Brandt is repeatedly recognized as a leading business and banking attorney and has earned an AV® Preeminent™ Peer Review Rating by Martindale-Hubbell and has been named a Super Lawyer by Minnesota Super Lawyer magazine.

Brandt earned his law degree from William Mitchell College of Law and attended St. John’s University and the University of Minnesota as an undergraduate.

List joins the firm’s 24-person Business Law section as shareholder. He counsels private and public companies and their boards on mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, restructurings, private and public equity and debt offerings, and general corporate matters. He advises private equity and venture capital funds on formation and portfolio company management and counsels publicly traded companies on SEC reporting and compliance. List represents a broad range of clients, including those in the financial services, oil and gas, healthcare, food and beverage production, real estate and telecommunications industries.

Prior to joining the firm, List practiced business law in the New Orleans office of Jones Walker.

List earned his law degree from University of Minnesota Law School and his undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota.

Stastny joins 10 other members of the firm’s Energy Section as shareholder after practicing energy law at the Minneapolis office of Dorsey & Whitney, LLP. Her practice includes environmental due diligence for utility asset acquisitions; representing utilities in rate case proceedings before the Office of Administrative Hearings and the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission; obtaining approval for property acquisitions, affiliated interest and other regulatory approvals from the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission; and counseling clients on various regulatory compliance, permitting and risk management issues related to federal and state environmental, energy, health and safety regulation.

Stastny brings extensive experience in ratemaking and regulatory law affecting public utilities and adds particular strength in natural gas utilities, which includes prosecution of rate cases and numerous associated regulatory filings in the gas utility context. She also has experience preparing filings and obtaining approval of base cost of gas petitions, demand entitlements, annual automatic adjustment and true-ups, new area surcharges and gas utility infrastructure cost riders.

Stastny earned her law degree from the University of Miami School of Law and her undergraduate degree from the University of Puget Sound.
