Briggs and Morgan Attorney Team Receives 2016 Social Justice Awards

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN.  –  Briggs and Morgan attorneys Scott Flaherty, Cyrus Malek, Michael Sawers and Jordan Weber received 2016 Social Justice Awards from the Minnesota chapter of the National Lawyers Guild on May 7, for their legal defense of the criminal charges brought after the 2014 Black Lives Matter demonstration at the Mall of America.

The team, along with Teresa Nelson, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Minnesota’s Legal Director, secured dismissal of all eight charges against their client, who was accused of leading, planning and organizing a Black Lives Matter rally at the Mall of America in December 2014. Flaherty, Malek, Weber and Sawers were honored with others that defended Black Lives Matter members in charges stemming from other rallies, including Legal Rights Center, the ACLU of Minnesota, the Minneapolis Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and the Council on Crime and Justice.
