Briggs Attorneys to Present Essential Estate Tax Update at Probate & Trust Conference

Briggs and Morgan shareholders Terry Slye and Jennifer Lammers will present “The “New” Minnesota Estate Tax and Repeal of the MN Gift Tax” at Minnesota CLE’s 40th Annual Probate & Trust Law Section Conference. The conference will take place June 2 - 3 at the St. Paul RiverCentre.

Slye and Lammers will address:

  • New exemption amounts and rate brackets phased in over five years.
  • New tax calculation methodology.
  • Treatment of gifts within three years of death.
  • The new Minnesota-only QTIP election and related basis issues.
  • The “pass through entity” rules and qualified farm/small business interest rules.

Slye practices in trusts and estates, providing legal counsel related to estate planning and wills and trusts, particularly for extended families with generation-skipping transfer tax considerations or significant charitable dispositions. He also is actively involved in the administration of estates and trusts. Terry is a frequent speaker on estate planning, particularly with respect to the Minnesota estate tax – a topic on which he is one of the state’s acknowledged experts.

Lammers also counsels individuals and families in regard to drafting wills and trusts, wealth transfer techniques, estate and gift tax issues, charitable planning, probate, trusts administration, disability planning, guardianships and conservatorships, and elder law matters, including medical assistance. She has lectured and written extensively in the field of estate planning and elder law.
