MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. (March 2012) – Briggs and Morgan, Professional Association is pleased to announce that shareholder Jon Schmidt was awarded the 2011 Pro Bono Award. The award is presented to one shareholder and one associate who perform outstanding pro bono services during the year. Schmidt received the shareholder award for his work in developing and initiating an appellate pro bono pilot program with the State Public Defender’s Office, which pairs attorneys at law firms interested in pro bono appellate work with the Public Defender’s Office. As a result of Schmidt’s efforts, several Briggs and Morgan associates have represented clients before the Minnesota Court of Appeals.
Schmidt is a member of the firm’s Business Litigation Section and Appellate Practice Group. Schmidt has represented clients in the Minnesota Court of Appeals and Supreme Court, the Supreme Courts of North Dakota and Wisconsin, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th Circuits, as well as certiorari proceedings and amicus briefs before the U.S. Supreme Court. Schmidt’s litigation practice focuses on railroad crossing and employment litigation matters.
