Briggs and Morgan Intellectual Property shareholders Mike Lafeber, Karen McDaniel and Lauren Lonergan will present as part of the 2013 Midwest Intellectual Property Institute. The IP Institute attracts more than 300 attendees each year, and is the most popular IP conference in the region. Lafeber will present Settlement Checklist for Patent and Trademark Disputes on Thursday, September 26. This session will focus on ensuring your patent or trademark settlement agreement does not lead to future disputes, and how to avoid common mistakes. McDaniel and Lonergan will present You Received a Cease-and-Desist. There’s a Possible Indemnitor. Now What? on Friday, September 27. This session will discuss the complex nature of cease and desist letters.
Lafeber is co-chair of the firm’s Intellectual Property Section, and practices in the areas of: intellectual property litigation, trademarks, patents, copyrights, licensing disputes, commercial litigation and deceptive trade practice litigation. He has been named a “Rising Star” and “Super Lawyer” by Minnesota Super Lawyers, and most recently, a "top 40" intellectual property attorney.
McDaniel focuses her trial practice in patent infringement, trademark infringement and trade secrets. In addition to managing active lawsuits, Karen also works with clients to craft overall IP strategy, conducts pre-suit analyses to determine go/no go litigation decisions, and engages in litigation avoidance counseling. She has been named a Top Rated Lawyer by American Lawyer Media and Martindale-Hubbell and Attorney of the Year by Minnesota Lawyer in 2012. Karen also has an AV: Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell.
Lonergan serves on the firm’s board of directors and is the former head of the Business Litigation Section. She practices primarily in the areas of insurance coverage litigation, employment and ERISA litigation, general business litigation and food industry matters. Lonergan is listed in Minnesota Super Lawyers, Super Lawyers Corporate Counsel Edition and in The Best Lawyers in America and has been recognized as a leading attorney by Benchmark Litigation, and listed in their Top 250 Women in Litigation in the U.S.
