Briggs Associate Elected to MSBA Appellate Council

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – Jonathan P. Schmidt, an associate in the firm of Briggs and Morgan, Professional Association, has been elected to the Minnesota State Bar Association's Appellate Council. The appellate council focuses on legal and policy issues related to both state and federal appellate practice, and facilitates related opportunities for continuing legal education.

Schmidt is a member of the firm's business litigation section and appellate practice group. He has represented clients in the Minnesota Court of Appeals and Supreme Court, the Supreme Courts of North Dakota and Wisconsin, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th, 8th and 10th circuits. He has also assisted with certiorari proceedings before the U.S. Supreme Court.

He received his law degree magna cum laude from the William Mitchell College of Law. Prior to joining Briggs in 2005, Schmidt clerked for the Honorable Natalie E. Hudson at the Minnesota Court of Appeals and the Honorable Myron H. Bright at the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals.
