Shareholder; Trade Regulation

Mike is a shareholder in the firm of Briggs and Morgan, Professional Association. He is a member of our Trade Regulation Section and is head of the Intellectual Property Practice Group. Mike practices in the following areas:

  • Intellectual property litigation

  • Licensing disputes
  • Commercial litigation
  • Deceptive trade practice litigation

Mike concentrates his practice in intellectual property and general commercial litigation, including trademark, patent and copyright disputes; licensing disputes; Lanham Act claims; unfair and deceptive business practice claims; and Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) claims.

Mike is admitted to practice in Minnesota, the U.S. District Court for Minnesota, U.S. District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin, U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, the U.S. Supreme Court, and the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals. Currently, Mike serves as a co-chair of the American Bar Association's Intellectual Property Roundtable Committee. He is a past member of the board of directors for the Minnesota Defense Lawyers Association and past chairperson of the Minnesota Defense Lawyers Association New Lawyers Committee. He is also a former chair of the Defense Research Institute’s Young Lawyers Corporate Counsel Committee. He has been named a “Rising Star” and “Super Lawyer” by Minnesota Law & Politics, and most recently, a "top 40" intellectual property attorney.

Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Mike obtained his undergraduate degree in government from St. John’s University in Collegeville, Minnesota. He obtained his law degree cum laude from the University of Minnesota, where he was director of the Civil Rights Moot Court. He served as law clerk to the Honorable Ann D. Montgomery, then U.S. Magistrate Judge, District of Minnesota (currently federal district court judge), and the Honorable Gary Larson, Hennepin County district court judge. Mike joined Briggs in 2002.
