Melitta George

Associate; Business Law

Melitta is based in our Minneapolis office and is a member of the Business Law Section. She practices principally in the areas of:

  • Corporate and business counseling
  • Mergers and acquisitions
  • Business succession and family estate planning
  • Nonprofit corporations

She has assisted in the following representation of:

  • shareholders of a food ingredients company in the $70 million sale of the company and preparing the necessary Hart-Scott-Rodino filing;
  • a family-owned holding company in its reorganization;
  • a Minneapolis commercial real estate company in its corporate reorganization.

Melitta regularly provides pro bono assistance to small businesses and entrepreneurs through the advice-only clinics sponsored by LegalCORPS, a nonprofit legal services organization. As part of Briggs and Morgan’s role as general counsel to Twin Cities in Motion, the producers of the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon, Melitta assists with contract review and general business counseling. In addition, Melitta is a contributing author to Lex Mundi’s LawForChangeTM website, a legal resource for the U.S. social sector.

Melitta is a member of the board of directors for the Minnesota Chapter of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association. She is admitted to practice in all Minnesota state and federal courts. She is a qualified neutral under Rule 114 of the Minnesota General Rules of Practice.

Prior to law school, Melitta worked as an arts administrator and performing musician and served as an assistant in the artistic department of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Melitta received a B.M. in piano performance from the University of Kansas and a M.Phil in music from the University of Birmingham, England. She graduated cum laude from William Mitchell College of Law where she externed for the Honorable Kevin S. Burke of the Hennepin County District Court during the 2007-08 school year. Melitta joined Briggs in 2008.
