Based in the firm’s Minneapolis office, Jason is a member of the firm’s Business Litigation Section. He practices primarily in the areas of:
- Banking litigation
- Commerical real estate and construction defect litigation
- Land use planning and zoning litigation
- Professional liability litigation
- Environmental litigation
- Business litigation
Banking Litigation
Jason represents a number of banks and other financial institutions in a variety of lawsuits involving enforcement of monetary, foreclosure and other remedies. He also represents banking clients in defending against adverse claims made by borrowers, guarantors and other banks and financial institutions.
Commerical Real Estate Litigation and Construction Defect
Jason has experience representing landlords, tenants and real estate brokers in various litigation matters, including actions to recover possession of real property, collateral and unpaid rents or commissions and enforcing contractual and statutory rights and remedies. Jason also has represented real estate development, construction and project management companies in a variety of commercial litigation matters, including the defense of claims involving wrongful death, personal injury and alleged construction defects.
Land Use Planning and Zoning Litigation
Representing waste companies, aggregate suppliers, developers and utilities, Jason handles challenges and appeals from zoning decisions made by local municipalities. In land use planning cases, he assists clients in dealing with permit, licensing and regulatory compliance issues.
Professional Liability Litigation
Jason represents professionals including attorneys, accountants, architects and engineers, in defending against claims of professional negligence.
Environmental Litigation
Defending clients nationwide against claims of liability and responsibility for environmental contamination, Jason also has successfully pursued affirmative environmental claims against potentially responsible parties.
Business Litigation
Jason represents a broad range of clients in all manners of business and commercial disputes, including matters involving unfair competition, consumer fraud, deceptive trade practices, trade secret misappropriation, trademark infringement and copyright litigation. He also handles cases concerning employment agreements, violations of non-compete and non-solicitation agreements, personal injury, professional liability, property damage, securities law violations, asset purchase transaction disputes, general contract claims, and shareholder and partnership disputes.
Jason has been named a “Minnesota Rising Star” by Super Lawyers Magazine since 2006. He also has served as adjunct professor and writing instructor at William Mitchell College of Law.
He is admitted to practice before Minnesota state courts, the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Minnesota and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit. Jason is a member of the Hennepin County, Minnesota State and American bar associations.
Jason received his B.A. in history and political science from Concordia College. He received his J.D. summa cum laude from William Mitchell College of Law, where he was an associate editor and contributing writer for the William Mitchell Law Review. Jason joined Briggs in 2002.
