Briggs and Morgan, Professional Association and The Advocates for Human Rights co-present the bi-monthly* Women's Human Rights Speaker Series.

In February 2008, 100 representatives from 29 countries gathered in Sofia, Bulgaria for the Regional Conference on Domestic Violence Legal Reform, sponsored by The Advocates for Human Rights and the Bulgarian Gender Research Foundation. In all the countries represented, women's advocates and government officials are working together on legal reform to better protect women from domestic violence and hold perpetrators accountable.

This presentation, "Transforming Laws and Lives," will explore the recent and remarkable developments in countries of the former Soviet Union and Central and Eastern Europe, and will outline the successes and challenges of creating, passing and implementing laws that uphold the basic human right of women to live free from violence in the home.

Staff attorneys with The Advocates for Human Rights will present, including Mary Ellingen and Rosalyn Park, and Women's Human Rights Program attorney and director Cheryl Thomas.

Open to the public (registration required).  Please RSVP to Mary Hunt (e-mail or 612.341.3302, ext. 107) by Friday, April 4.  Lunch to be provided. Application will be made for one CLE credit.
