Manager Of Research Services - Minneapolis


Position available for a full-time Manager Of Research Services in the Library in Briggs and Morgan's Minneapolis office.  Position directs the overall planning, management and operation of library and research services for both the Minneapolis and St. Paul offices.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Develops, coordinates and implements library resources and services. Provides the vision and long-range planning for integrating research services into the firm’s strategic goals.
  • Develops library billing procedures, establishes and maintains financial controls, and prepares the library budget.
  • Supervises library personnel.
  • Oversees the implementation and operation of the firm’s EOS Library Management System and the Library Portal page.
  • Maintains the library collection by overseeing acquisitions, cataloging, filing, book processing and mail check-in.
  • Plans for resource development by evaluating new services and monitoring trends and technology.
  • Negotiates contracts with vendors for terms that will benefit the firm; maintains vendor relationships.
  • Maintains a proficiency in research techniques and performs research services as necessary. Provides back-up for library staff positions as necessary.

Qualifications Include:
  • The successful candidate will have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, the ability to lead people and projects, and the ability to deal effectively with differing opinions and personalities.
  • Master’s degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA accredited institution.
  • A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible library experience, including three years in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Experience in a mid to large- size law firm is preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of library resources, methods and organization.
  • Proficiency with Westlaw and Lexis is required. Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel is required. Proficiency with PowerPoint and SharePoint Portal is desirable. Proficiency with other commercial databases such as D & B, Accurint, CorSearch, etc. a plus.
