Matt Slaven is a member of the firm's board of directors and the Business Litigation section. He practices principally in the areas of:

Matt focuses his telecommunications practice in the areas of federal universal service and interconnection matters. Matt has represented numerous national and regional wireless telecommunications carriers in federal court proceedings, before the FCC and before state regulatory agencies, including Alaska, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Washington, West Virginia and Wisconsin. Matt has worked closely with in-house counsel to assist with the development of national policy positions and strategy. He has also worked closely with in-house counsel to develop and implement regulatory compliance programs for several national carriers.
Matt focuses his land use practice on zoning and permitting issues affecting industrial, commercial and residential development. In conjunction with his administrative law and land use practices, Matt has represented energy companies in connection with the permitting and siting of power plant facilities, electric transmission lines and substations in Minnesota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. He has also represented a number of national and local solid waste management companies in litigation and administrative proceedings, including environmental review and tax proceedings.
In the construction law area, Matt represents national and local developers, builders and design professionals in connection with contract negotiations, drafting and construction defect litigation. He has also served these clients as a business consultant and assisted with permitting and licensing issues across the country.
Prior to joining Briggs, Matt was associated with another law firm where he concentrated his practice in appellate advocacy, civil litigation and professional discipline.
