  • Environmental litigation and compliance

Kristin focuses her practice on advising gas and electric utilities in rate case and other regulatory proceedings and regularly represents utility clients in contested case proceedings.

Kristin’s work has included environmental due diligence for utility asset acquisitions; representing utilities in rate case proceedings before the Office of Administrative Hearings and the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission; obtaining approval for property acquisitions, affiliated interest and other regulatory approvals from the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission; and counseling clients on various regulatory compliance, permitting and risk management issues related to federal and state environmental, energy, health and safety regulation.

Prior to joining Briggs, Kristin practiced in the regulatory and energy group at a large firm in Minneapolis. She brings extensive experience in ratemaking and regulatory law affecting public utilities and adds particular strength with her experience with natural gas utilities, which includes prosecution of rate cases and numerous associated regulatory filings in the gas utility context. Kristin has experience preparing filings and obtaining approval of base cost of gas petitions, demand entitlements, annual automatic adjustment and true-ups, new area surcharges and gas utility infrastructure cost riders.

Kristin also has experience with various aspects of Minnesota’s conservation improvement program and has assisted natural gas utilities with triennial plan filings, annual status report filings and petitions for approval of demand side management incentives.

As a law student, Kristin served as an editor for the University of Miami Law Review.
