Dennis Reis is a member of the Business Litigation section and the Environmental Law group. Dennis practices principally in the areas of:

  • Environmental counseling
  • Environmental litigation

Dennis offers more than 25 years of legal experience in environmental counseling, remediation and litigation. He counsels a wide range of clients on compliance issues that arise under environmental laws, such as the Federal Water Pollution Control Act; the Clean Air Act; the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA); the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA); the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA); and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). He is also familiar with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) penalty policies and other related governmental regulations.

Dennis has handled environmental remediation for hundreds of contaminated sites nationally. Specifically, he counsels clients in creating cleanup scenarios that integrate with brownfield development and funding, brokering settlements among large numbers of potentially responsible parties, negotiating with environmental agencies, hiring and overseeing technical consultants, preparing analyses of cost impacts for client review, and insurance recovery counseling. In addition, Dennis has assisted clients with creating environmental management systems that assure compliance and promote the integration of environmental considerations into everyday operations.

Prior to joining Briggs, Dennis ran his own private environmental legal practice. During this time, he counseled a large, $33 billion publicly traded company as its environmental law legal team leader. In addition to general counsel responsibilities, such as managing other outside law firms and performing due diligence, Dennis managed consultants and contractors in major mergers and acquisitions, and environmental remediation projects on behalf of the client.

Dennis was formerly a partner at several other known law firms in Chicago and Milwaukee.
